Chapter 3 Discussion Living Art

Q For this discussion, write a one-page criticism of a work of art that many think is less than ideal (but not awful). It should conform to the D-I-E model and be 3 paragraphs long (one for each section). Pay particular attention to describing what you experience it's the foundation for this critical model. There's one catch, you need to choose a piece of artwork available on the web and it CANNOT be a painting. Choose sculpture, dance, theatre, architecture, music, etc. but no paintings. Make sure that you include the web address at the end of your posting so that others can see your inspiration. When you respond to your classmates, make sure that you have viewed their artwork before responding.

Describe: I have chosen Okeanos which is a sculpture in San Diego, California. It had been created by William Tucker in 1988. William Tucker got a commission of $200,000 million for this statue and this was meant to be giant wave that signifies various things. However, the statue gained popularity for all the wrong reasons as people quickly recognized its resemblance to a giant piece of turd. This statue had been erected in 1988 in front of the Scripps Green Hospital. It has become a place to visit in San Diego but instead of becoming famous, it became infamous because of its structure. It is blackish gray in color and visually looks like a huge turd emerging from the ground.
